The Drought- Original Artwork

$2,600.00

‘The Drought’

This artwork represents the mental burden that women carry.

Women often carry a domestic and mental load that others sometimes don’t understand. There is a feeling of being drained and languishing in moments when they should be feeling happy. This piece is a metaphor for a lack of support and how we can sometimes feel very isolated in our duties particularly in situations that are more traditionally female or bound by cultural expectations.

This artwork links to “Dhala-bu-nya” which symbolises the absence of support when it’s most needed and the reluctance to accept support when it is finally offered.

The idea of drought reflected in this artwork symbolises the absence of fulfilment within some parts of female life, and the loneliness that can be experienced by women when life takes hold.
